In composite profiles, quality does not hang on a single certificate on a wall; it depends on every step from raw material intake to length cutting being repeated the same way. That is exactly why we chose pultrusion: the more fixed the process, the more predictable the result.

Long-standing manufacturing discipline, a new material

NA-ME Composite has been manufacturing in Baskent OSB, Ankara since 1982. Composite profiles are a product group we developed on that experience — not an experiment set up from scratch, but years of shop-floor discipline carried into a new material.

In practice that means this: we did not learn how to take dimensions, discuss tolerance, track batches and keep a delivery promise alongside composite. The material changed; the way we work stayed the same.

Why pultrusion gives repeatable quality

In pultrusion, continuous glass rovings are combined with resin and cured as they are drawn at constant speed through a heated die. The process is continuous and automatic; it carries none of the operator-to-operator variation of hand lay-up.

Fiber content, fiber direction, resin mix, die temperature and pull speed are all process parameters. Hold those parameters fixed and every meter from the same die is practically identical to the last. That is exactly what an engineering calculation needs in order to mean anything: predictable, repeatable mechanical behavior.

Quality is not achieved with a single check after production; it is spread across every stage of the line. The table below summarizes the control points a profile passes through from raw material to packing.

Our approach to samples and testing

Which test is needed varies with the project. So rather than publishing a list of tests here, we explain how we work.

Pre-production sample

When a new section or a project-specific die is involved, a sample profile is produced before series production starts. Dimensions, surface and color are approved mutually on that sample. We do not start series production on a section that has not been approved.

Verifying mechanical properties

Where the project requires it, we work with independent laboratory support to measure basic mechanical characteristics such as flexural strength, tensile strength and hardness. Scope and method are settled together according to the project specification.

Chemical resistance

When the name, concentration, temperature and type of contact of the chemical on site are shared, the resin is selected accordingly. Where it is judged necessary, behavior is observed with a contact or immersion trial. If information is missing we do not guess, we ask.

UV and fire behavior

On outdoor projects and those with a fire requirement, the additive and resin system suited to the need is selected. How those requirements will be verified is planned project by project and set out in writing at the quotation stage.

A guide to GRP profile standards and compliance

Most specifications that reach us name a standard before they name a section. It is worth being precise about what each of those documents actually measures, because a standard number on a drawing is not the same thing as a guarantee, and the difference decides whether the profile you receive behaves the way your calculation assumed.

EN 13706 — the European standard for pultruded profiles

EN 13706 is the reference most European engineers reach for when they specify a pultruded GRP profile. Its useful idea is that it classifies profiles by minimum full-section properties rather than by resin or fibre content. The two grades it defines, E17 and E23, take their names from the minimum longitudinal modulus in GPa: E23 is the stiffer class, E17 the lower one. A grade tells you the floor the section must reach in a defined test, measured on the profile itself rather than on a sample cut from a flat sheet.

What it does not do is describe your load case. Two profiles can share a grade and still behave differently in your frame, because the grade fixes a minimum and says nothing about the section geometry that carries your span.

ASTM D638 and ASTM D790 — coupon tests

Where European specifications lean on EN 13706, North American ones usually quote ASTM methods. ASTM D638 measures tensile properties and ASTM D790 measures flexural properties. Both are run on prepared coupons, not on a full profile, and that distinction matters more than it first appears: a coupon result describes the laminate, while a full-section result describes the part you will bolt into a structure. When you compare two suppliers, check that you are comparing the same kind of number.

Reaction to fire: EN 13501-1 and ASTM E84

A fibreglass profile has an organic matrix, so it is combustible. Honest specification starts from that fact rather than around it. EN 13501-1 places construction products in Euroclasses from A1 to F on the basis of defined reaction-to-fire tests; ASTM E84 reports a flame spread index and a smoke developed index from a tunnel test. Flame-retardant resin systems change how a profile behaves in these tests, and a project that has a fire clause needs the clause quoted in full, with the test method named, before anyone selects a resin.

ISO 9001 and the difference between a system and a product

NA-ME Composite works to ISO 9001 for quality management, with ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. The ISO 9001 scope covers the design, development and manufacture of composite (GRP, FRP, GFK, polymer) products, which is the activity behind every profile on this site.

It is worth stating plainly what that means and what it does not. A management-system certificate says the process is documented, controlled and audited: how a batch is recorded, how a nonconformity is handled, how traceability is kept. It is not a product certificate, and we do not present it as one. Those are two different claims and mixing them is the most common piece of dishonesty in this market.

How to write this into your specification

The specifications that produce the fewest surprises share a shape. They name the property, the direction it is measured in, the test method, and whether the figure is a coupon value or a full-section value. They state the environment rather than the resin, so the supplier carries the responsibility for matching one to the other. And they say what evidence is expected with delivery.

Send us the clause as it is written in your document. If we can meet it we will say so and explain how it will be shown; if we cannot, we will say that too, which is the subject of the next section.

We know that certificate and standard names get used as marketing material in this sector. We do not take that route.

  • We state in writing which requirements we can meet and which we cannot.
  • With delivery we share the product and batch information and any relevant verification records.
  • We write the dimensional and tolerance expectation clearly in the quotation; we do not leave it to a verbal understanding.
  • If a deviation occurs during production, we tell you before delivery.

What we do not do

  • We do not list certificate and standard names of unclear scope on the website.
  • We do not present test results from another project as a general promise.
  • We do not brush off a requirement we cannot meet with "we will sort it out".
  • We do not commit to a resin or a service life without information about the environment.
  • We do not list prices; every job is costed on its own dimensions.

Quality starts at the quotation stage

Choosing the right profile is as much part of quality as making it correctly. The questions we ask while preparing a quotation may feel like a lot; but every one of them removes a problem you will not meet on site.

  • Location and system: handrail, platform or structural member
  • Environment: chemicals, moisture, salt, temperature range and UV exposure
  • Load and span: what will sit on it, how many meters have to be crossed
  • Section size: h × b × t or a hand sketch
  • Quantity and length: total meterage and the cut length required
  • Color and surface expectation
  • The project specification if there is one, and the delivery point
